“Gender diversity exists in every culture and geographic context. It
is to be celebrated,
not pathologised”

Welcome to the Trans Health Research website!

Our team is headed by Dr. Sari Reisner, Lead Investigator and Director of Transgender Research at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Research Scientist at The Fenway Institute at Fenway Health. Dr. Reisner leads a global portfolio of research focused on:

  • Health disparities and inequities in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning (LGBTQ+) populations, with specialization in transgender, non-binary, and gender nonconforming health

  • Epidemiology of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including development and design of biobehavioral interventions in traditionally underserved  populations

  • Psychiatric epidemiology of mental health and substance use risks and resiliencies across adolescence and young adulthood

Our team uses a participatory population perspective to work “with” not “on” communities in research and evaluation, education and training, and policy and advocacy efforts. On this website you can view information on our current and past projects, read publications and reports, explore LGBTQ+ health resources, and meet our team.
